The school was built in 1877 and consists of four classrooms, a library, an ICT room, staff room, and small office. It has an active School Board and Parent Teacher Association who work in partnership with the school. The school has an active Pupil Council and Eco-Committee. Deshar Primary is a rural school situated close to the junction of the Aviemore/Grantown road and about one mile from the village of Boat of Garten.

To provide a wide, varied and appropriate curriculum within the 5-14 framework. To promote partnership between school, parents and the wider community. To enable each child to seek and achieve his/her full potential and to promote independent learning as much as possible. To develop an awareness and appreciation of the rich environment in which the school is situated. To develop professionalism, planning and teamwork amongst all staff.
