mountainbiking
There are plenty of cycling routes and tracks to suit all abilities in and around Boat of Garten. Perhaps you require a gentle woodland track for a family group, or a more severe route to test your endurance or maybe you are tackling the Sustrans Cycle Route 7 which passes directly through the village and where a stamping station can be found. Whatever applies to you can be accessed easily from here.

A few favourite local routes -

  1. Cycle along Kinchurdy Road carry on where it becomes a track, past the little cottage with the amazing collection of antiquities in the front garden. Follow the track left under the bridge and down through the farm yard. When you get to the river turn left and follow this track all the way until you come out along side the golf course, turn left to get back to your original starting point.
  2. Leave the village over the bridge and up to the T Junction. Turn left towards Nethy Bridge. At the Junction for Loch Garten turn right. Follow this road until you get to the Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie car park. Turn right and cycle through the car park. When the track forks take the left track and follow this all the way through to Loch Mallachie. When you get to the loch follow the track around the right hand bend at the loch side. Continue along the track, ignoring the track that goes of to the left and you will return to the car park. Do not go back to the road, instead, follow the track to the left which runs alongside the road. When you pass a small lochan on your left you will see another forest access road with a wooden pole acting as a gate, turn left onto this track and follow it all the way back to the car park opposite the T junction just outside the village.
  3. Leave the village over the bridge and up to the T Junction. Turn left towards Nethy Bridge. At the Junction for Loch Garten turn right. Follow this road past the Osprey Hide and turn right at the next junction for Tulloch. Further along this road turn right again for Tulloch Moor. Follow this road all the way across the moor until you reach the main road, turn right and head back towards Boat of Garten, turning left at the junction just outside the village to return over the bridge.
  4. Leave the village over the bridge and up to the T Junction. Turn left towards Nethy Bridge. At the Junction for Loch Garten turn right. Follow this road past the Osprey Hide and turn right at the next junction for Tulloch. Cycle through the hamlet of Tulloch past the telephone box and round the left hand bend. Continue along the road until you see an unmade road on the right. Take this road and follow it all the way until you get to the signs for Forest Lodge and where it says no vehicles any further. On your right you will see a gate and track, follow this and go left where it forks. This track takes you all the way through to Ryvoan Bothy and on to Glenmore Lodge. Once at Glenmore, join the main road back towards Aviemore, turning right at the signpost for Boat of Garten. An all day ride, but worth it!
  5. Follow the Speyside Way Long Distance footpath along Kinchurdy Road all the way through to Aviemore. Once in Aviemore follow the main road through the centre, take the left turn signposted for Coylumbridge and Cairngorm. Cycle along this road, past the Coylumbridge Hotel and take the left turn signposted for Boat of Garten. Cycle all the way along this road until you reach the left turn back into the village.
